Thanks to generous financial support from our alumni base, the Nevada Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was able to award our first set of scholarships to deserving undergraduate brothers for the 2012-2013 school year.  The raffle at our 15 year banquet and celebration, along with several outstanding individual donations to the scholarship fund, provided our Alumni & Volunteer Corporation with $1000 to kick off this in-house scholarship.

A $400 scholarship for Overall Excellence was awarded to the current VP Recruitment, Nick Coughlin.  He has maintained a 3.66 cumulative GPA while working 30 hours per week, has been a key member of SigEp’s intramural sports teams, and has run the Balanced Man Scholarship since 2010.  His efforts have undoubtedly exemplified SigEp’s core values.

Scholarships of $200 each were awarded to Jake Periera, Erik Edgington, and Topher Cuellar for Underclassman Excellence, Academic Accomplishment, and Leadership Accomplishment, respectively.  Periera has maintained a 3.64 cumulative GPA in Finance and Economics while leading the house towards becoming Residential Learning Community (RLC) certified.  Edgington has maintained a 3.89 cumulative GPA, including 4.0’s his last two semesters, while majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  Cuellar has served as Nevada Alpha President for the past year, attended RUCK Leadership Institute, and was a top 50 finalist for the Tragos Quest to Greece.

Nevada Alpha’s Alumni & Volunteer Corporation would like to make this an annual scholarship to be awarded at the Balanced Man Scholarship Banquet every August.  In order to do this, we need financial support from our alumni base.  We will run fundraisers throughout the year to help with this cause, but individual donations to this scholarship are also welcome.  To set up an individual donation, please email Cody Wagner at  We will also set up a recognition process for donors in the future.  Thanks to this year’s individual donors, Rob Westwood ($300) and Cody Wagner ($200), as well as all of you who bought raffle tickets.
